Matthew Montoya

Matthew Montoya joined Bertrand, Fox, Elliot, Osman & Wenzel as an Associate in 2022, where his practice is focused on the defense of public entities in the areas of employment, dangerous conditions, and civil rights. Prior to joining the firm, he practiced at a busy Bay Area civil litigation firm, focusing on admiralty and maritime matters. Mr. Montoya also has experience defending employers and national insurance carriers for claims arising under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, Defense Base Act, and War Hazards Compensation Act.

 

Mr. Montoya earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Arizona. He then attended Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. While in law school, he clerked at the Office of the Alameda County Public Defender, where he represented indigent clients in various stages of the criminal justice system.

 

Mr. Montoya is admitted to practice in both the State of Louisiana and the State of California. He has been an active member of the State Bar of Louisiana since 2017, and an active member of the State Bar of California since 2021.
